Day 5 I Am [Ryanna]

I Am

I am the crinkling of handwritten notes

Weather worn and fragile from constant human touch

I am the words on the pages

Sprawling sentences written with love

I am the stories the words convey

Picturesque beaches and adventures with friends

I am what others see

A person, a girl, a daughter, a student, a friend

But I am so much more than that

I can do so much more

I can be so much more

I have been, have done so much more

In another life, another place, a different circumstance

I am my soul

And my soul is eternal.

This poem reflects my growth throughout the process of this Writing Journey. In the beginning, I had been caught up in the troubles of a teenager’s life, struggling to cope with school, friends, family and other commitments. I was constantly worried about my appearance, and what people thought of me. I was not sure where was life was going, what my future held for me. But through the process of the Writing Journey, I have learned to self-reflect, to see things from different perspectives, and I realized that life is more than what you accomplish. Achievements and rewards definitely boost my self-esteem, making me feel proud of myself. However, whatever we achieve in this life will not snowball into the next, and what is more important is enjoying the life you have, because there will be no other life quite like this. I believe in reincarnation, but I do not believe in a god. I believe that our soul carries on eternally, letting us experience life time and time again. This is why I have realized that I am more than what others think of me, because whatever others say and think will have no lasting impact on my soul, as my soul will forever carry on, leading life to the fullest.
