I really admire Lomax for being able to forgive the guy who tortured him as he was so brutally tortured and even after the torture he could not lead a normal life because of the trauma the war has given him. Lomax was able to do away with the thought of revenge and the scene where when he met the man who tortured him and that man voluntarily put out his hand to let Lomax hit him, Lomax instead vent his anger by hitting the objects around him. This scene is very admirable as he has the heart and empathy to forgive the man for what he did in the past. If Lomax did hit the man or kill him, it would have made Lomax equivalent to the man, thus I think that Lomax did the right thing and allowed me to learn that revenge is not the way to go as it will only demean me to my enemy.
Personally, it is very difficult for me to forgive someone, but I will definitely forgive someone if they are remorseful as I also do not think it is right for one to keep forgiving if more harm is still going to be inflicted on him/her.
From the movie, I have learnt that forgiveness is something so powerful as it will not only help the victim move on from his/her traumatic past, it will also help the perpetuator stop suffering from guilt. Even though I think that I still would not be as forgiving as Lomax after the movie, I will definitely try my best to have a more open heart and to practice forgiveness.
