People say that time heals all wounds, but do all wounds really heal? Or are they covered up, bandaged crudely to hide the fact that the pain is still there, festering and gradually becoming infected, filling with pus as time passes. When it comes to wounds of the mind, time can make these painful memories evolve into a lust for revenge. People lick their wounds and suffer in silence, dreaming of a day where their vengeful spirit can finally find peace. But revenge takes the humanity out of a human, and leaves a rotting carcass of a soul, which only craves the bitter medicine of payback.
I believe that forgiveness is the best medicine. Take your time to think about the suffering you have gone through, let yourself open up about your feelings, and then … let go. Let go of the hatred that slowly eats at your heart, let go of the bitter feelings of resentment, and choose to forgive. It takes a lot of willpower and discipline to actively choose to forgive someone who has wronged you, and let bygones be bygones.
Forgiveness to me means accepting the truth of suffering, it means acknowledging that sometimes, both the victim and the perpetrator have been wronged, and it means learning and growing from these harsh emotions, and becoming better people together. By no means should you forget the suffering you have gone through. When we keep things hidden, suppressed and covered up, it brews more negative emotions. Only when we face our suffering head first, can we truly grow from it. After all, failure breeds success, and suffering should breed growth.
